Captain Anthony E.
Gaiani currently serves as the Captain of Naval Base
Coronado. The New York native informally known as “Tony”
graduated from The Citadel in 1984 and was designated as a
Naval Flight Officer in 1985. Since his inception into
active duty he has been deployed to Europe, Asia and many
other places throughout the world, working on missions such
as Operation Southern Watch and Operation Iraqi Freedom
before coming to Coronado in 1996, and serving as the
Captain.
Throughout his many years
of service he has accumulated over 3000 flight hours and has
made 750 carrier landings. Additionally, he has been
awarded numerous honors for his dedication to our country.
His awards include two Bronze Stars, the Defense Meritorious
Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, two air medals
for valor, six strike flight Air Medals, the Joint Service
Commendation Medal, two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation
Medals for valor and four gold stars, the Navy and Marine
Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars, and various
other campaign and unit awards.
Captain Gaiani and his
wife, Colleen, have two children together.
