2007
CORONADO SPEED FESTIVAL |
Are
you ready for an experience you won’t forget? The Coronado
Speed Festival presented by North Island Credit Union is a
weekend that you will always remember; as a sister event of
the world famous
Monterey Historic Automobile Races at Laguna Seca, the
Coronado Speed Festival gathers together racing history's
most unique and pedigreed machines at one of the most
distinctive stages, Naval Base Coronado, the birthplace of
Naval Aviation, on October 6-7, 2007.
The
2007 Coronado Speed Festival is hosted by the Navy Region
Southwest, Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Program. MWR
retains all revenue generated by tickets sold to the
Military and a percentage of the overall revenue generated
by the event. They in turn provide positive support for the
active duty military community and their families through
Quality of Life Programs including, Single Sailor Recreation
Centers, Fitness and Aquatic Facilities and the Base Theatre
Free Movies. The Southern California community is given
this unbelievable opportunity to thank the men and women
defending our freedom in person.
A spectator-friendly
1.7-mile course is constructed in a matter of days on the
runways and taxiway of Naval Base Coronado. The 2007
Coronado Speed Festival features over 225 of the world's top
racing machines from years gone by competing in eight
classes. These vintage racecars are chosen to compete on
the basis of their historical significance and certified
authenticity.
The
Coronado Speed Festival is proud to be a part of the largest
military appreciation event in the nation, Fleet Week San
Diego.
The 2007 celebration
will include exciting events for families and military
personnel including the Port of San Diego Sea & Air Parade,
Saturday, September 29 and the famous MCAS Miramar Air Show
October 12-14. For more information about Fleet Week San
Diego events visit
www.fleetweeksandiego.org.
General Racing Ltd, will once again produce this
exciting spectacle under the direction of Steven J. Earle,
founder and producer of the Monterey Historic Automobile
Races since 1974. The Laguna Seca event is widely
acknowledged as the foremost historic car race in America.
If
there is a specific automotive product or novelty you are in
search of, look no further than the Vendor Village.
Take a break from the
high-speed action on the track and check out the latest
innovative products, high-tech exhibits, racing
paraphernalia, games and much much more.
Unlike
most racing events, every fan is encouraged to walk through
the garage area and watch as the racecars go through their
final inspections before hitting the track.
You can tour the pits on
your own or take a guided tour led by the drivers
themselves. The owners and drivers encourage this rare
opportunity for all interested from the casual fan to the
gear head.
The Classic Car Exhibition features a rare and
eclectic mix of some of the world’s finest automotive
wonders. Each year the theme of the collection will change
so fans will always be able to experience different
collections.
Support our troops and
show your car! The Second Annual Car Show to benefit the
Navy’s Morale Welfare Recreation - MWR will be held both
days. Awards presented both days! An application to enter is
available under the Car Show link.
